Climbing in Phang Nga Bay
We
have established climbing routes on four tropical islands in Phang Nga
Bay. One is Koh La Ding (Paradise Island). This is where
our Thai climbing guide, Dut, lives when he is collecting bird nests.
This is a big business in Thailand and it's also rather dangerous. Collectors
climb up bamboo scaffolding to access the nests.
Visiting Koh
La Ding would entail leaving from Koh Yao in the morning, climbing on
one of the dozen routes (mostly moderate) from 5 to 6c, though harder
climbs are also available. While there, we also offer snorkeling gear,
info on bird's nest collecting, lunch and unlimited climbing.
Another Island
is Koh Pak Bia. This Island also offers beautiful white
sand good for snorkeling and about a half a dozen climbs. Most of these
climbs overhang the water. These waters also hold good fishing (barracuda,
kingfish, jackfish).
Koh Lo Kah
is another Island about a 10 or 15 minute run from Koh Yao. This Island
holds some of the best hard routes in all of Thailand.
You could spend decades climbing
new routes in Phang Nga Bay and not really cover the area. In other words,
there is almost unlimited climbing potential. The image to the left is
of a nice natural crack on Ko Batang.
If you've dreamed of doing
first ascents in the tropics, we can help you realize your dreams.

Phang
Nga Bay Rock Climbing Walls
There
are already two climbing walls on Koh Yao Noi.
One is the
Grateful Wall, which has about a dozen routes from 6a to 7a.
This wall is on the northern tip of the Island and is only accessible
by boat. It's right on the water. There's no beach, but there is a great
rock ledge for belaying.
A three minute
boat ride takes you to another island across from the wall. This island
has a good beach for swimming, and at the right tide, good diving as well.
The other wall
is located in the same bay as Paradise Resort. This is accessible by both
boat or a 20 minute scooter ride from the village.
There are some
ancient petroglyphs on some of the Islands. We offer climbing trips to
these remote Islands, but we also offer other activities to personalize
one's trip.
The cliff to the left is on
Ko Khlui. There are dozens upon dozens of unclimbed routes on this stunning
island. Not only is the climbing amazing, but who knows what is on the
other side... a hidden lagoon, a lush primary-growth valley or just more
rock... no one knows.
